Addiction is continued use despite negative consequences

Addiction and substance abuse can look like

I have deep experience in several evidence-based approaches and will customize your sessions to fit you, your circumstances, and your goals. My education and ongoing training are at the forefront of eliciting change from the start of treatment and into the future.

The psychotherapy approach I have developed involves a focus that utilizes the interplay of neuroscience, trauma, mind-body connections, in-the-moment experiential work as well as unconscious motivations. Some of this is reflected in the modalities of AEDP, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness and Psychodynamic Intersubjective Theory.

My clients describe me as patient, thoughtful, sometimes humorous, and gentle. I am also clear, direct, and will say what needs to be said, with compassion, when needed.

I am honored to share this life-changing work with my clients. Playing a part in another's transformation is a rare gift and it’s far more than a job. I am touched, and affected regularly, and care deeply about my clients.

Each of my clients has a unique relationship with substances. In therapy we will identify the  motivations, emotions and meaning of your substance use. From there I can help you clarify and make the changes you want to make.

You may know you have a problem and have difficulty stopping. On the other hand, you may be unsure if your drug or alcohol use is a problem and have questions about what to do next.

Maybe it’s time to quit.  Or maybe it’s time to reduce your use.

Perhaps you’ve already stopped using, but wonder if more in-depth work could help you move forward in your life,

These questions are hard to answer on your own. Over the years I have developed an expertise and strong track record in helping clients  with substance use and addiction.

We’ll work together to find what level of drug or alcohol use works in your life.

This may be reduced, more conscious use, or complete abstinence. We’ll get to know your patterns of use, triggers, and vulnerabilities to misuse. I’ll guide you to interrupt the cycle of compulsive use through planning, preparation, insight, and increased awareness of emotional states.

Some of my experience with substance abuse includes:

  • Hospital inpatient and outpatient treatment

  • Residential and day treatment drug and alcohol programs

  • Private practice addiction therapy

  • Knowledge and experience with 12-step and other abstinence-based programs

  • Harm reduction and moderation management

  • Collaboration with other addiction professionals and psychiatrists

  • Consultant for concierge medical organizations, HMOs, and private practitioners.

Whatever your concerns are, I am more than happy to discuss them with you.
